Do you look tired even after a good night’s sleep? Are puffiness, dark circles, or fine lines under your eyes making you feel self-conscious? If so, then jelly roll Botox may be the solution you’ve been searching for.In this blog, Dr. Dawn Mancuso, MD, explains what jelly roll Botox is and how it can help wake up tired-looking eyes.
What is a “Jelly Roll”?
The term “jelly roll” refers to the small bulge or swelling that appears just below the lower eyelid when smiling or squinting.
This is caused by the orbicularis oculi muscle, which encircles the eye, contracting and creating a noticeable puffiness.
For some people, this natural reaction is more prominent and can contribute to a tired or aged appearance, even if they are well-rested.
How Can Botox® Help?
Botox is used to temporarily paralyze or relax the muscles it is injected into. Injecting small amounts of Botox into the orbicularis oculi (eye muscle) weakens the contractions, reducing the appearance of puffiness and fine lines under the eyes. The result is a smoother, more youthful appearance.

FAQs About Jelly Roll Botox
Jelly roll Botox typically lasts around 3–4 months, but results may vary depending on the individual. Factors such as muscle activity, metabolism, and lifestyle choices can affect the longevity of Botox.
The number of units needed for jelly roll Botox treatment varies depending on individual needs. Dr. Mancuso will assess your muscles and determine the appropriate amount of Botox to achieve the desired results.
Swelling and bruising can occur after a Botox treatment, but it should subside within a few days. The swelling can be caused by the injection itself or the body’s response to the Botox. If you have concerns, please contact our office for further guidance.
We do not recommend jelly roll Botox if you have seasonal allergies and are experiencing allergic symptoms.
No, jelly roll Botox does not help with dark circles. Under-eye fillers, or tear trough fillers, are used to add volume when the skin under the eyes has become lax (loose) from aging or genetics. However, dark circles are not always caused by loss of skin laxity. Your injector will first determine the cause of the dark circles and then suggest treatment options that will work for you.
