How does SkinPen Microneedling work?

A variety of tiny sterile needles are arrayed on the tip of the only FDA-cleared microneedling device, which is designed to penetrate just below the skin’s surface.

The microneedles gently create tiny wounds, called micro-channels, in the epidermis and dermis, prompting your body to produce new collagen and elastin without causing scar tissue formation. This helps the body soften the appearance of acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, and also improves overall skin tone and skin texture for a more youthful appearance.

What is the procedure for Microneedling with SkinPen?

The SkinPen Microneedling treatment begins with a brief facial cleansing and the application of numbing cream to keep the procedure as comfortable as possible.

Then the microneedling device is applied to the treatment areas, where it produces tiny punctures to prompt the body’s natural process to restore healthy skin.

At the end of the collagen induction therapy, the practitioner will provide you with post-care products to help soothe and nourish treated skin and support optimal healing.

Usually, multiple treatments are given as a 3-part series, with sessions spaced 4 weeks apart. This can vary amongst patients depending on skin types and what’s being treated.

What can I expect after the SkinPen Microneedling procedure?

Unlike chemical peels and other invasive procedures, there is no downtime required for microneedling with SkinPen. You are free to resume daily activities immediately.

It’s common to experience some redness, dryness and irritation immediately after treatment, but these symptoms usually clear up within 48 hours.

When will I see results from Microneedling with SkinPen?

Results are cumulative, with the most dramatic improvements occurring after 6-8 weeks of the initial treatments. As the body continues to produce new collagen and elastin, results will continue to become more visible.

Effects from microneedling typically last anywhere from 3-5 months. To maintain results, many patients return twice per year for touch up treatments.
