Microblading is a cosmetic procedure that has become hugely popular in recent years. Beautiful brows every day with minimal effort? Yes, please! This semi-permanent tattoo mimics the look of individual hairs in the eyebrows. The result is fuller brows that look natural and require little maintenance once they have healed.

In this blog, we will explain the microblading healing stages, what to expect at each stage, and how to look after your new brows so they heal properly and keep their fresh, defined look for as long as possible.

Learn the differences between these two popular treatments so you can choose the best technique for your brows.

Day 1–2: Fresh, Bold, and a Little Red

Right after your appointment, your brows will look darker and more defined than you anticipated. This bold appearance happens because the pigment is still sitting on the surface of your skin. You might also notice some redness and mild swelling around the treated area.

Seeing your finished brow at this stage can be a little alarming, but don’t panic! The swelling will go down and the color will mellow.

Tips for this stage:

  • Keep the area clean and avoid getting it wet.
  • Gently blot any fluid or buildup with a clean tissue.
  • Do not apply any makeup or skincare products to your brows.

Day 3–7: Flaking and Itching

During this period, your brows will begin to flake as your skin heals and regenerates. You might see small scabs forming and notice some itching. The pigment can look uneven or patchy.

It can be tempting to pick at the flakes, but this is the most important time to leave them alone so you do not accidentally pull out pigment.

Tips for this stage:

  • Do not scratch or peel any scabs.
  • Keep the area dry and avoid excessive sweating.

Day 8–14: Faded and Light

After the flaking subsides, many people are surprised by how light their brows appear. It may look as though the color has disappeared completely, but this is part of the healing process. The pigment will resurface as your skin continues to heal.

Tips for this stage:

  • Avoid heavy sun exposure, which can fade pigment.
  • Trust that the color will return in the coming weeks.
  • Continue applying aftercare ointment as directed

Week 3–4: Color Returns

Over the next week or two, you will see the true color of your brows gradually come back. The tone softens into a more natural-looking shade, and any uneven areas begin to blend.

Week 6: Time for a Touch-Up

About six weeks after your initial appointment, it is time for your touch-up session. This visit is essential because it allows your technician to adjust the color, shape, and density to perfect your results.

After the touch-up, your brows will go through a shorter healing cycle similar to the first, but typically with less flaking.

Reminders for a Smooth Healing Process

To keep your results looking their best, keep these simple reminders in mind:

  • Avoid picking or scratching at your brows.
  • Keep them clean and dry during the first two weeks.
  • Stay out of pools, saunas, and direct sun while your skin heals.
  • Use only the aftercare products recommended by your provider.

If you notice unusual symptoms like severe redness, swelling, or discharge, contact your technician or healthcare provider. Mild discomfort and flaking are expected, but signs of infection should always be addressed promptly.
